We don’t just do summer reading programs here. Our Shared Reading program is designed to help your child keep up the good reading all year-round. The simple program encourages you and your child to become reading partners, as together you set reading goals and talk about what you read. You can create your own reward system for meeting your goals, but the library, through generous donations from local businesses, also provides several prizes for your child to choose from once a month. Sign up at the Children’s Reference Desk.
Children's and Teen Summer Reading Programs and Rewards
Each year, starting in early June, you can sign up for Summer Reading at the Orem Library! Kids and teens can earn weekly rewards such as coupons to local restaurants, arcades and museums when they set and meet reading goals. Come to the library often throughout June and July to attend a variety of free programs for kids and teens, including storytimes, games, art workshops and other events.
Catch regular screenings of Hollywood classics, blockbuster hits, and the finest of cinema from around the world each week, Monday and Friday evenings at 6:30 PM in the Media Auditorium.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
The concept is simple, read a book (any book) to your child - infant, toddler or preschooler - until you have read 1,000 books together. You might ask, “What? 1,000 books? That’s so many. How can we do it?” If you read one bedtime story a night for three years, you will have read over 1,000 books. If you read four books each day, you will have read over 1,000 books in one year. Reading 1,000 books will help your child develop a larger vocabulary, increase language skills, and strengthen parent to child bonding. You can do this! The library is here to assist you. We have booklists available at the library, and our staff love to give book recommendations.
How does the program work?
1. Come to the Orem Public Library’s Children’s desk.
2. Pick up your first 100 books log.
3. Check off each book you read (re-reading counts!)
4. Check off every book read to your child—include books from daycare, preschool, or storytime
5. Finish the first 100 books, come in and pick up the log for the next 100 books.
